I purchased this wood because I like the name. My wife's home is on Coyote Moon Rd here outside Taos. She gave it that name. We have plenty of these critters living around the neighborhood and the Coyote is one of her favorite animals. This particular piece of wood had a natural figure in the grain and so it caught my eye. Anyway, I was so enchanted by the name and the figure that I chose to purchase the board and make a flute from it. The wood is heavy and dense. It has a rusty color and, as I mentioned, some nice curl in the grain. I chose to put a strip of inlay down the top to make her a little more interesting to look at. Turns out, it made a fine instrument. The heavy, hard wood gives a nice, clear tone, letting all the sound come out of the instrument instead of some of the sound being absorbed by the wood.
