This gorgeous wood is some of the most beautiful material to lend itself to fine musical instruments. The last Tulipwood flute that I created was sold in a matter of days. Tulipwood grows on the west coast of Brazil. The trees are small so obtaining pieces big enough to create musical instruments is difficult. The price of the lumber is high (around $50.00 a board foot) and unfortunately there is much "waste" when creating musical instruments. Of course this "waste" is put to good use in creating birds and is useful for accents, and the sawdust makes great mulch, so it really doesn't go to waste. However, only about one half one third of the wood purchased actually ends up as a flute. This flute plays as beautifully as it looks. You will be proud to own such a fine instrument. I have created two different sound files, one with reverb and one "dry" so that you can hear how this flutes sounds in both formats. As you can hear, this flute plays both the minor pentatonic or "Native American" scale as well as the diatonic or "do re me" scale well. This flute, as with all my flutes, is very versatile. If you want to keep it simple and stay with the Native American scale, you can have many years of enjoyment improvising your beautiful music. However, if you wish to play other songs that people can recognize, you have an excellent tool to learn and perform with.
